Nothing Like Wine and a Pizza Pie

There are few things that say Finger Lakes summer quite like a glass of locally made wine, a farm to table fresh pizza, live music and good company. Put them all together at Tabora Farm & Winery, and you have the recipe for a perfect wine-country evening.

Located on Lakemont-Himrod Road near Dundee, Tabora has created a destination that feels like much more than a winery. It’s a farm, bakery, deli, tasting room and gathering place—and on Pizza Night, it becomes one of those places where you can settle in, relax and enjoy the best of the Finger Lakes.

When to Go?

For a casual evening in wine country come to the Tabora Tasting Room for fresh, made-to-order pizza, Tabora wines and live music. Pizza Night generally runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. every other Thursday night from June through October. Wine is served by the glass or bottle, with other offerings including sangria, wine slushes, and beer.

Pizza Night is thing! Pizza Night is the alternative to a formal dinner, an alternative to making a mess in your own kitchen and have a pile of dishes! Pizza Night at Tabora invites you to slow down and enjoy your company. So grab a table, order a pie, sip on a  glass of wine and listen to the music. It’s the kind of evening that reminds you why we love living in the Finger Lakes.

Why Wine and Pizza Work So Well Together

Pizza may seem like simple food, but it is surprisingly wine-friendly. Tomato sauce brings acidity. Cheese adds richness. Pepperoni and sausage bring salt and spice. Vegetables add sweetness and earthiness. That's where Finger Lakes wines shine.

A crisp white can refresh your palate between bites, while a lighter red can complement the savory flavors without overpowering the pizza.

Pizza & Wine pairing:

  • Try the Maple Bacon Pizza with a Dry Riesling. Tried, tested, and loved it! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

  • But if you like a little sweetness, reach for the Semi-Dry Riesling. The touch of residual sweetness can be delicious with spicy sausage, pepperoni or a pizza with hot peppers.

  • For red-wine lovers, a Pinot Noir is a natural choice with pizza. Its lighter style makes it versatile enough for everything from a classic cheese pizza to one topped with mushrooms, sausage or other savory ingredients.

  • Want something a little bolder? Try Cabernet Franc. Tabora has offered both an unoaked Cabernet Franc and a more traditional Cabernet Franc. It's a great option for hearty pizzas loaded with meat, roasted vegetables or bold cheeses.

  • And don't overlook the Dry Rosé. For a warm summer Pizza Night, a chilled glass of rosé can be exactly what you want—especially with a lighter pizza, fresh vegetables or a simple Margherita-style pie.

Wine + pizza + music + friends = a pretty great night.

Tabora Farm & Winery brings together so many of the things we love about the Finger Lakes: agriculture, wine, food, music, history and the simple pleasure of gathering around a table. Get over to Tabora, you’ll love it!

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you stay awhile and come back often. I started the weekly newsletter and this website for tourists and locals alike. I once was a tourist (over a decade ago) and now I’m a local, living here, working here, raising a family here! And I sure do love it!

Naturally I first fell in love with the rolling hills and cool lake breezes. But as I returned again and again, for a different season and different reason, Penn Yan stuck with me. I recall first it was the hint of grape when you drive by a vineyard and then the caramelized, roasted air that wafted down Main Street from Birkett Mills. Visit after visit my husband and I hit all the tourists stops because of my curiosity. Full disclosure - my husband was raised in Penn Yan and he knew all the ins and outs of the area to woo me! Travel & history nerd here! So, through our years of dating and early years of marriage (p.s. we got married in the Finger Lakes!) we would visit family, friends, and our favorite spots. Then the day came when our son was just 6 months old and we decided it was time to move to Penn Yan! Now 10 years later I’m here to share my love of this place with you!

I hope you enjoy this, I hope you take away some cool and fun inspiration for your next adventure. If you're planning a trip, please don’t hesitate to reach out - I’d love to personalize an experience or a 7 day itinerary for you.
