Have a Little “End of Summer” Fun at Pick’n Patch

The region may be famous for its lakes, wineries, breweries, restaurants, and charming villages, but agriculture is an equally important part of the Finger Lakes story. A visit to a local farm is a wonderful way to slow down and enjoy the land. And there’s no better place to do it than the Pick’n Patch!

Located just 20 minutes from Penn Yan, along Routes 5 & 20 in Stanley, is the Pick’n Patch - a classic Finger Lakes farm experience with a little something for everyone—from apple picking and corn mazes to sunflower fields and seasonal treats.

A Great Finger Lakes Family Adventure

The whole family will find lots of actives to enjoy at the Pick’n Patch. Young and old can climb and slide the Hillside Slide, the young (and young at heart) can jump on the Giant Pillow Bouncer, and the whole family can hop aboard the wagon ride for a journey around the apple orchard. There are plentiful activities you can find at the Pick’n Patch including:

For the Adventurous

With every corner bringing a new decision, the adventure is equal parts fun, challenge, and a little bit of friendly competition. Listen to the rustling corn, soak up the sun, and see if you can find your way to the finish. Grab the QR code for the maze map as you enter if you’re a bit fearful of getting lost - the live gps map helps you find your way! Take along a challenge for additional fun a long the way and every year the maze theme changes. This year its all about celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary. It’s truly a perfect activity for families, friends, and anyone who enjoys a good old-fashioned outdoor adventure. Just remember—getting lost is part of the fun!

For the Youngest Visitors

Pick’n Patch has plenty of fun activities designed especially for its youngest visitors, making it a wonderful destination for a family outing. Little ones can bounce, giggle, and burn off some energy at the Lil’ Pumpkin Bouncer, a favorite for active kids. The Corn Kernel Pit lets children jump, scoop, and play in a giant pit filled with corn kernels for a uniquely farm-themed adventure. Kids can also climb aboard the Firetruck Fun House for imaginative play and then explore the farm aboard the Train Ride for a fun and memorable journey. With so many activities to discover, Pick’n Patch makes it easy for little ones to enjoy all the sights, sounds, and excitement on the farm!

For Tweens & Teens

Pick’n Patch isn’t just for little ones—tweens and teens will find plenty of ways to have fun and stay active, too. Challenge your friends to a game of lawn games, including Yard Yahtzee or Hook & Ring. Then head over to the Giant Pillow Bouncer for some high-energy bouncing and laughs. Climb the Big Red Climber to get to the highest point on the farm and get a splendid view. For a little friendly competition, race down the Super Slide and see who can reach the bottom first. The Low Ropes Course adds a bit of adventure and agility. The Game Zone offers even more opportunities to play and compete, test your speed throwing a baseball and challenge your accuracy with football targets. With so many activities packed into one farm, the Pick’n Patch makes it easy for older kids to put down their phones and enjoy a day of outdoor fun!

A Whole Day Adventure

With the Beltane’s Barnyard Animals, the Apple Blasters, and nearly 8 acres of a corn maze to wander through, plan to stay a while! Have a freshly homemade donut, order up the Giant Bavarian Pretzel, and for the adults sip on a harvest inspired slushee! Recommendation: plan for at least for 3 hours, but stay for the whole day!

When to Go

The Pick’n Patch is especially popular in the fall, when the farm transforms into a colorful autumn playground and pumpkins are abound. But you can visit now to celebrate summer’s end! Wander through the corn maze, take a tractor ride, sip a wine slushee, and enjoy the days activities at the farm. Before you go check out their special events.

Upcoming events include:

  • Sunflower Fest

  • Pancake Breakfast

  • Honeycrisp Weekend

  • Movie Nights

  • Moonlight Maze Evenings

Whether you're looking for pumpkins, photographs, a family outing, or simply an excuse to spend a beautiful day outdoors, the Pick’n Patch is worth putting on your Finger Lakes end of summer & fall list.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you stay awhile and come back often. I started the weekly newsletter and this website for tourists and locals alike. I once was a tourist (over a decade ago) and now I’m a local, living here, working here, raising a family here! And I sure do love it!

Naturally I first fell in love with the rolling hills and cool lake breezes. But as I returned again and again, for a different season and different reason, Penn Yan stuck with me. I recall first it was the hint of grape when you drive by a vineyard and then the caramelized, roasted air that wafted down Main Street from Birkett Mills. Visit after visit my husband and I hit all the tourists stops because of my curiosity. Full disclosure - my husband was raised in Penn Yan and he knew all the ins and outs of the area to woo me! Travel & history nerd here! So, through our years of dating and early years of marriage (p.s. we got married in the Finger Lakes!) we would visit family, friends, and our favorite spots. Then the day came when our son was just 6 months old and we decided it was time to move to Penn Yan! Now 10 years later I’m here to share my love of this place with you!

I hope you enjoy this, I hope you take away some cool and fun inspiration for your next adventure. If you're planning a trip, please don’t hesitate to reach out - I’d love to personalize an experience or a 7 day itinerary for you.
