Red or White? Hots that is?

America’s all time 4th of July favorite is the Hot Dog! Across the U.S.A. this weekend you’ll find the famous Hot Dog Eating Contest streaming, you’ll see it on Facebook & Instagram, and you’ll see it right here in our own backyard! Our beloved Abandon Brewery is hosting their very own 1st Annual Hot Eating Contest on July 4th. The contest kicks off at 2pm on Saturday, just $15 to enter and benefits the North Paw Rescue. Check out their website for additional details: https://abandonbrewing.com/calendar/

Now that I made you hungry for a hot dog let’s talk about dogs… Everyone has their own version of the perfect dog - meat and quality preference, one condiment topping or many, and of course how its cooked: grilled, steamed, or corned battered and deep fried.

Here in Western New York there is one favorite that we can all agree on: Red & White Hots!. This is a signature regional frankfurter hailing from Rochester. Made famously by Zweigle’s! You’ve got your “red hot”, the snappy beef and pork blend with a red color and then you have the “white hot”, uncured, unsmoked combination of pork, beef, and veal retaining the pale or white color.

As you celebrate this weekend, give these a try on the grill. Its tradition to serve both at summer gatherings, offering your guests the choice. Perhaps let your family and friends have Hot Off and see which is the winner? Will it be Red or White?

Cheers friends!
